In letters to William Valentine Alexander Mrs. French writes regarding her literary efforts, especially the "Susan Clegg" series and her desire to be a children's author. There are many comments on her life as well as her opinion on the nature of chidren's literature, education and literary taste. In a letter, 1909 April 23, Philadelphia, Alexander writes requesting a story, with a note containing her reply at the bottom. Photographs of Mrs. French and some biographical information are also included.
